EMPOWER THE WORK
In the 1820's, the Holy Spirit brought many Christians into understanding that slavery was an affront to the character of Christ. Putting feet to their faith, these men and women became abolitionists and architects of manumission which means "to let the slave go free". They formed communities called "Manumission Societies" to empower the abolition work with Godly conviction. This was a direct outcome of the second great awakening which brought spiritual renewal and cultural reform.
Today, we see the Holy Spirit moving in this way once again.
As we encourage the Church in the ministry of reconciliation,
a new Manumission Society must resource the work.
